Part 2 ~ For the Love of Roses~

Part 2

~For the Love of Roses~

THE ROSE
It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of God's design,
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.
-
The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I,
The flower God opens so sweetly,
In my hands would fade and die.
-
I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God's design,
Then how can I have wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?
-
So I'll trust Him for His leading
Each moment of every day
And I'll look to Him for His guidance
Each step of the pilgrim way.
-
For the pathway that lies before me
My heavenly Father knows
I'll trust Him to unfold the moments
Just as He unfolds the rose.

~The Rediscovery of Roses~
in the Kitchen

Each year we eagerly anticipate the budding rosebuds...
That means that the Rose~Syrup Season
is around the corner !
Let's bottle up the essence of Spring !
The use of this lovely homemade rose~syrup is very diverse...

Pouring a trickle of rose~syrup over
Vanilla Ice~Cream is a delightful way to enjoy Spring sweetness to satisfy your sweet tooth ! ;-)
Or make Rose~Popsicles to share with friends and family on a sunny day ! Add an amount of Rose~Syrup to yogurt, stir and freeze.
A favorite combination is strawberries with Rose~Syrup...
Simple and sublime...

This is so easy to make but such a treat:
Rose Whipped Cream
Simply whip up some cream with a bit of powdered sugar and add a few spoons
of rose-syrup and mix.
Sweet on pancakes, waffles or to decorate little cakes!
Use your imagination !

Start by gathering about 5 cups of fresh Rose Petals .
See last post for how to harvest roses.

Pull the petals from the rose heads and transfer into a pot on the stove.

Add 2 cups of fresh water.

Let it simmer for about 10 - 15 minutes.

Strain the roses through a fine sieve.

Add 2 1/2 cups of sugar while stirring.

Stir in 3 Tbsp of lemon juice
(or juice of 1 lemon)

And see the magic happen ! ;-)
Simmer on low for 15 - 20 minutes.

Pour the syrup into little sterilized jars and seal.

Our little furry friend Pennie
was curious what we were up to ! ;-)

What about surprising your family with a cold glass of  Rose - Lemonade ?
Fill a pitcher with
1 part rose syrup to 4 parts cold water and serve.
You can use sparkling water to make it extra special and maybe let a rose petal float on top of each drink & add a wedge of lime or lemon.
Or maybe a teaspoon of syrup in
your steaming cup of tea ?
A special treat !

We hope you enjoyed this Rose Serie
and hope you can store up some bottles and pleasant memories this Spring !
